For Women

Today there are many more women living with HIV in Canada. More than one quarter (26.2%) of people newly diagnosed with HIV are women. Most of these women are between the ages of 25 and 44.

Because of women’s unique biology and physiology, HIV can affect women differently than men.  Women are more likely to develop:

  • Bacterial pneumonia
  • Recurrent herpes infections

Healthcare for women living with HIV is very important.  When women are able to access healthcare and receive comprehensive treatment they experience significant benefits.
