Technology Access Clinic (TAC)

Patients Served
TAC serves individuals of any age with a primary physical diagnosis, who require augmentative communication strategies or assistive devices for written or face-to-face communication.

Services Provided
TAC provides augmentative communication services for individuals who do not have functional speech or handwriting due to a physical disability.  Services include assessment for augmentative communication devices, access to Ministry of Health Assistive Devices funding, consultation and follow-up in the client’s environment. 

The TAC Team
The TAC team is made up of speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation/electronic technologists, a Communicative Disorders Assistant and equipment coordinator and administrative assistant. 

Your first visit to TAC
On a first visit to TAC, a client will see a speech language pathologist and/or an occupational therapist.  Clients should bring any writing/ typing splints and corrective eyewear or hearing aids as well as details about any previous communication aids.

Q. How long before I can be seen?

A.  The wait time between referral and assessment fluctuates depending upon a variety of factors. Information regarding the current wait time is available upon referral.

Q. Who is eligible for ADP funding?

A.  The client must be an Ontario resident, have a valid health card and a physical disability.  The client must also be prescribed a communication device or display following the assessment by the TAC team.

Q. How many appointments/visits are required?

A.  This depends on the needs of the client.  Clients with more significant physical disabilities often require more assessment sessions.

Q. Do you come to the home?

A.  Yes. Clients can be seen in their homes, although the assessment sessions are usually done in the clinic so that the clinicians have access to any equipment that may be needed.
